2012 was a huge success for Guinness and God! Fr Robert Barron, Bishop Eugene Hurley, Fr Chris Ryan MGL, Peter Holmes, Leah Darrow, Sr Mary Rachel OP and Fr Rob Galea all gave great talks to large numbers of young people at King O’Malley’s. As we look forward to 2013, we are again excited by the line up of speakers we have coming to Canberra, which includes Lulu Mitshabu, Fr Dom Murphy OP and Peter Holmes! Don’t miss Guinness and God in 2013!

Well, what a month for Guinness and God! We had Archbishop Mark speak to 100 of us on the 7th June about going beyond Good Girl/Good boy Christianity, which was a fantastic night. When Tim Staples was unable to make his flight to Canberra on June 21st because of the Ash Cloud, we had Fr Frank Leo from the Apostolic Nunciature share his life story with us. It was a wonderful night, with 150 people present! Local Catholic musician Steve Kirk also played music for the night, which added to the atmosphere, and Fr Frank took questions for over half an hour. A big thanks to Archbishop Mark, Fr Frank Leo and Steve Kirk.  Now we look to August 2nd, when Sam Clear will share with us his story of walking around the world for Christian Unity. See you there!

The second Guinness and God event for 2011 was fantastic! 110 people attended King O’Malley’s Pub for an engaging and enlightening talk by Karen Doyle on ‘The Genius of Womanhood – The Legacy of JPII’. Karen’s warmth, experience and knowledge of the topic all contributed to a stimulating talk. The Q & A time after the talk was a thought-provoking and entertaining end to what was a fantastic evening.

In other news, anticipation is now building for the next Guinness and God (June 7) when Archbishop Mark Coleridge will speak on the topic of ‘Beyond Good Girl/Good Boy Christianity’.

Guinness and God got off to a fantastic start for 2011, with 110 people attending at King O’Malley’s on Tuesday night! Dr Deirdre Little gave an inspiring and informative talk on Eugenics, and the Q and A time could have continued for a long time, with many thought provoking insights given. Guinness and God is proud to present Embryo ‘Quality Checks’: Creating the children we want?, by Dr Deirdre Little tomorrow (Tuesday April 5) night! Dr Deirdre is a qualified doctor who is deeply involved in many spheres of Catholic life, for further information, please visit the events page.

Guinness and God happens one Tuesday night a month, from 6.30pm-9.00pm at King O’Malley’s pub in Garema Place. It’s an opportunity to meet other young Catholics from around Canberra, share a meal, and listen to a speaker break open a relevant topic in a comfortable environment. Our next Guinness and God for 2013, is on Tuesday April 9. We look forward to seeing you there!

The inaugural Guinness & God event was held on Monday 16th August at King O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Canberra City. Over 110 young adults attended, filling the room as they socialised over dinner and drinks before settling down for the talk to follow. Many were fascinated to see such a diverse group, representing the plethora of parishes, universities, groups and movements within the Canberra region.
Archbishop Mark Coleridge delivered the key address, “The Church: Irrelevant, Intellectualised, Institutionalised … Or the Greatest Show on Earth?” His thoughts inspired many, with members of the audience keen to contribute to the question and answer discussion time that followed.
